Cumel Doctor Oscillators
KLKM-1080 & KLSM-1080

Cumel Doctor Drives

Designed and manufactured to be direct replacements for Valmet k80f or k80e oscillators (Valmet is using these oscillators on their latest board machines), but may be configured for almost any mounting; housings are protected with inerta primer and polyelastomeric paint; sliding shaft is case hardened steel, with two bearings and viton seals; pushing force is 14,700 n = 3240 lbs; ratio is 62:1; stroke is 16mm; 16 strokes/min; no greasing required; worm gear set is high precision; warranty is 12 months; life should be at least 5 years

Motors are totally closed per specification IP 67; specially designed, manufactured, and painted by Cumel for oscillating equipment in hot, wet, chemical environments.  Motor rating is 0.37 kw; shaft seals are viton; end bells and terminal box covers are sealed with o-rings; cable sleeve packing per specification IP 68; motors are delivered with a 2 meter length of cable, but longer or shorter lengths can be supplied on request; motors tested under water

There is a gasket or an o-ring between the motor and the oscillator, which protects the flexible coupling.  We ask you to try an oscillator and motor assembly, to test integrity of sealing design.

Cumel Shower Oscillators
CJD-301-CP

Cumel Shower Oscillator

The new Cumel CJD-301 oscillator drive unit is designed for showers of the wires, rolls and felts used in the papermaking industry.

All the electrical and mechanical parts in the oscillator are protected against wet conditions and will operate with ambient temperatures as high as 250° F. The motor, gear unit and sensors are installed inside a water-resistant acid-proof stainless steel casing.

The oscillator is easy to install in different locations. Custom made mountings are also available.

The oscillating motion is provided by a precision screw driven by the motor. The drive unit consists of a reliable 3-phase induction motor, which requires only minimum of maintenance. The Cumel oscillator drive has an inbuilt mechanism to restrict the force generated by the unit. This will prevent mechanical damages in case the jet pipe collides with e.g. frame of the machine or the drive shaft exceeds its operating limits.

The linear motion is guided by a pulse counter counting the pulses sent by the rotating screw. The length of stroke can be adjusted by setting the desired value in millimetres. The screw is equipped with a rotation guard to switch off the motor and to start an alarm signal in case of unexpected halting of the shaft. The alarm signal can be used to switch off the high-pressure pump to avoid damage to the wire or the felt when the oscillating motion stops.

Due to a frequency converter-driven motor it is possible to adjust the speed linearly. The adjustment of speed can be carried out manually using a potentiometer or automatically according to the speed of the paper machine.

The speed can be adjusted in relation to the speed of the wire so that in each subsequent revolution of the wire the jet scrubs subsequent sections of it. This will provide the optimum cleaning result. An appropriate signal of the paper machine's control system, comparable to the speed of the machine, can be used as a control value for the oscillating speed, in which case the jet speed will automatically follow the speed of the machine. The type of signal must be specified when ordering.

The control unit box can be mounted either along the machine or at the electric distribution board. The drive unit is provided with a preinstalled 2 meter cable.

If necessary, several drive units can be managed by one control unit.

The oscillator is connected normally to a 1-phase supply. The voltage and type of supply must be specified when ordering.

Automatic Rotators For Brush-cleaned Showers
CDB-100

The showers in most of the large European Paper Machines are designed to use recycled water, which has fibers in it. Because of this, the nozzles can be clogged by fiber build-up, so an internal, rotating brush is used in each shower to keep the nozzles clean. The brush is usually rotated by an external hand-wheel. In each shower location it is important to regularly rotate the brushes so that the shower liquid spraying through the nozzles can keep the machine clothing clean.

Some shower locations have readily accessible hand-wheels, but some may not be so easy to reach, and because of this, are extremely difficult to turn by hand.

For this reason, Cumel manufactures an Automatic Brush-rotating System, which may be cycled according to machine speed, or may have a separate control. Several shower brush rotators may be controlled by one control unit.

The brush rotating unit attaches directly to the end of the shower, allows continuous passage of high-pressure shower liquid, and while operating as a nozzle cleaning unit, opens a valve for flushing liquid, rotates the brush, and moves it back and forth axially, inside the shower body. The flushing valve is spring-loaded, guaranteeing a tight closed valve, long operating life, and rare maintenance intervals. The rotating mechanism, axial mechanism, and flushing valve are contained in one housing, making it easy to attach the unit to any existing high-pressure shower, and thereby insure long machine clothing life.
